Frequently Asked Questions

What time is the front door open?
The front door is unlocked from 8:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday and 8:30am-5:00pm Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Residents in Sapphire, Coral, Amber and Emerald can ring the doorbell at any of the courts and one of the staff members will come to assist you. If you find that you are regularly visiting before or after these hours, feel free to talk to the front desk receptionist about getting a key fob.

After hours for Alex residents - Please press the button for the apartment # of the person you are visiting. They will unlock the door for you from their apartment.

Who do I talk to about getting a key?
At Valley VNA, we no longer use traditional keys. A secure entry system using a "fob" takes their place. Fobs may be issued to residents and family members, allowing you to enter the door of the court where you or your family member lives.  The first fob is free of charge and additional fobs are available for a $10.00 (non-refundable fee). If you would like a fob, please contact the front desk - 727-5544.

Can we reserve a room at Valley VNA for a special party or event?
Yes, the Keller Community Center and the Bergstrom Family Dining Room are both available to reserve for birthday parties and other social gatherings at no charge. Be sure to call ahead to guarantee availability - contact the front desk - 727-5544. Residents and/or families are responsible for providing their own food, refreshments and room clean-up.

Can we bring in our own food or can Valley VNA's cook make food for a party and we pay for it?
Yes, you can bring in your own food, i.e. slow cooker, caterer, pizza party, etc. Generally we don't ask our cook to make food as they are busy preparing meals for our residents. We could bake or purchase a cake for your party if preferred. The number of people coming will determine the best location - please contact the front desk for more information - 727-5544.

Can I eat a meal with my loved one and how do I pay for it?
Yes, we welcome you to join them. Weekly menus are posted on this website - see MENUs page. Please call the front desk (727-5544) 24 hours in advance to let them know the day, time and how many will be coming. All meals will be charged to the resident's account and will be reflected on the next bill. Please note that o
n Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, we invite families to have cookies and punch. We are unable to serve meals to families on these days.

If you have suggestions or questions regarding meals, please contact our Food Service Director, Julia Ryan at 727-5544 ext. 1050.

What times are meals served in the Assisted Living areas and Alexandrite?
Alexandrite - The continental breakfast is served beginning at 7:00 am until 9:00 am. The noon meal is served starting at 11:45 am for the salad bar, with the main course served at 12:00 noon. This is the main meal of the day. Supper is served at 5:00 pm.

Assisted Living - Breakfast is served from 7:30 am until 9:00 am. The main meal is served at 12:00 noon and supper is served at 5:00 pm.

What happens if an appointment conflicts with the scheduled meal time?
Contact the Shift Manager, (920) 707-0047, a day or two ahead of the appointment and they can make arrangements to have your meal served either earlier or later in the day.

Can I take my family member out for dinner? Who do I talk to about this?
Yes, you definitely can take your family member out for dinner, to a movie or any activity you like. We encourage you to do this, the residents enjoy it very much. Some residents spend weekends or overnights away from Valley VNA on occasion. Please let an RA know as soon as possible so we can adjust meals and arrange for medications (if necessary).

Do you have internet access for residents?
Computers with internet access are available in the Kimberly-Clark library for our residents to use.  The computers are equipped with 28" monitors, which are easier to see, even for those who are visually impaired.

Where do I pay my monthly bill?
You can bring it to the receptionist at the Front Desk or mail it to:

     Valley VNA Senior Services
     1535 Lyon Drive
     Neenah, WI 54956

Are family members welcome to attend group activities with their loved ones?
Absolutely! Attending the planned activities can be a great way to spend time with family and/or friends. Monthly activity calendars for each court are posted on this website so you can plan your visit around a specific program or activity - see the ACTIVITY CALENDAR page.

If you have suggestions or questions on activities, please contact Bill Mauthe, Life Enrichment Coordiantor at 920-727-5544 ext. 1060 or billm@valleyvna.org

Is there someone available to ride along on doctor appointments?
There is staff available through Valley VNA's In-Home Care service that can accompany a resident on a visit to the doctor.  Please let one of the RA's know you need this service and we can arrange it for you. There is a nominal charge for this service.

Can't you "make" my loved one attend activities so they keep busy and involved with others?
Some residents will routinely refuse invitations to most, or all, activities to which he/she is invited. We cannot ethically - nor legally - make or force a resident attend any program that he/she does not want to, no matter their level of cognition or whether or not a family member/P.O.A. has given his/her permission. Family members, however, may be able to convince a loved one to attend a specific program with them, and this often works when invitations from staff routinely fail.

My loved one has laundry service. Do I have to do anything special with their clothes?
Residents or family members should make sure that all resident's clothes are marked with their name and apartment number to ensure all articles of clothing can be returned after laundering. You can use any permanent laundry marker.

Do we need to bring in bedding or is it supplied?
Valley VNA will supply, if needed, all the bed linens for residents in the assisted living. Residents are welcome to bring their own pillows and/or blankets if they would like to.

Do we need to bring our own bed?
We encourage residents/families to bring their own beds, if possible. Otherwise Valley VNA does have a limited supply of beds available for our assisted living residents to use. There may be times where our nurses recommend a high-low bed for a resident and Valley VNA has a limited number of those available as well.

Can I put up Christmas decorations in my apartment or room? Can I put up large-scale decorations, as I have many and this was my hobby?
Yes you can decorate your apartment or room for Christmas or any other holiday.  Christmas lights and trees are acceptable; however fire code prohibits the use of candles.

We will try to accommodate a special Christmas decoration if possible, but we are limited in space as Valley VNA does have their own decorations that are put up.

What if I have problems with the heat or cooling or other maintenance issues - who do I call?
For questions about issues in your apartment - heating or cooling, appliance problems, putting up pictures in your apartment, etc. - contact our maintenance staff, Mike and Bob. To reach them, call the shift manager at 707-0047 or the front desk at 727-5544. They will contact them.

Who do I contact for questions on the organization or Assisted Living?
For general questions on Valley VNA or the Assisted Living, please contact Theresa Pichelmeyer - 920-727-5555 ext. 2201 or theresap@valleyvna.org
