All Is Not Loss: Beyond Death Our Lives Remain Lovingly Woven Together

By Rev. John McFadden, M.Div., Chaplain, Valley VNA

We are in the midst of planning the 25th annual Love Light Angels Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 1. I am relatively new to Love Lights, having shared in the ceremony for the first time last year. A wonderfully warm and pensive group of people gather for this shared experience of music, reflection, and of course, beautiful twinkling lights. You, too, are invited.

In my role as chaplain and speaker, I hope to affirm the loving relationships we have and keep with one another – whether we walk together, are separated by death, or are journeying together through dementia or physical decline. This constancy of our most valuable loving relationships is in direct opposition to so many things in our world that are fleeting and temporal, here today and gone tomorrow. It is important we pause to reflect in gratitude upon the things that cannot be lost or taken from us – above all, our relationships with those whom we cherish.

Paul famously insisted that nothing, even death, can separate us from the love of God. Likewise the losses that inevitably accompany our journey of aging do not take away our capacity to share in relationships of love and joy with our cherished companions. Even beyond death our lives remain woven together through memory. The influence of having known and cared for one another is constant and invaluable.

Join us at Love Lights to contemplate the true meaning of the Christmas season.
